Filarmonicas Praia da Vitoria 2 August 2011

At 2130hrs 2 August we went back to the Rua de Jesus to watch the procession of 17 of the islands 24 wind instrument bands - an amazing number for such a small island. Traditions on Terceira seem to be alive and well. Please click on arrow to play video clip:

Each band comprised boys and girls, young and old - all enthousiastically playing marching tunes.

Around 2300hrs we were then entertained by two of the bands in the picturesque square by the Town Hall until the early hours of the morning. We were perched on the stone steps of the old Town Hall between the pots of fragrant flowers.
The programme included various light classical and popular songs - very professionally played - very pleasant to listen to.
