Car Trip Morocco - Day 9 Erg Chigaga to Taliouine

After a welcome tea from Mohamid at the Chez le Pacha hotel in Mhamid, we made the long drive back up the Draa Valley, through Agdz and via the carpet making town of Tazenakht to Taliouine.
It was after dark when we arrived in Taliouine and so we stopped at the first hotel we came across which was mentioned in the Lonely Planet. Luckily this proved to be more than adequate - the four of us shared a large suite with two double rooms, lounge, kitchen and bathroom.
Taliouine is the centre of a Saffran producing area - one sees signs advertising the herb for miles around. The Saffran is a form of Crocus

The flowers are picked by hand

and the red stamens, the only parts used, are separated - very time consuming process - hence the high cost of the product
